OpenSim Workshop at ESB 2017

Learn to use the key tools in the OpenSim workflow and tune the design of an assistive device using the OpenSim-Matlab interface.

OpenSim Fellows Friedl De Groote and Ilse Jonkers, along with colleagues Mariska Wesseling and Sam Van Rossom, from KU Leuven in Belgium, will hold an OpenSim workshop at the 23rd Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB) in Seville, Spain on Sunday, July 2, 2017.

AGENDA

Morning Session: In part 1 of the workshop, participants will receive an introduction to OpenSim's models and tools by computing joint contact forces and conducting an analysis of a drop landing based on experimental data. Participants will learn about the basic OpenSim workflow through lectures and hands-on exercises using the Graphical User Interface (GUI). Tools that will be covered include:

• Scaling
• Inverse Kinematics
• Inverse Dynamics
• Static Optimization
• Joint Reaction Analysis

Afternoon Session: In part 2 of the workshop, participants will evaluate ankle inversion injury risk in a drop landing. In this more advanced session, participants will learn to use the OpenSim API and Matlab interface. They will generate forward simulations of motion with the GUI and perform simulation-based design of orthoses to prevent injuries using the OpenSim-Matlab interface.

PREPARING FOR THE WORKSHOP
To participate in the hands-on exercises for either part of the workshop, bring a laptop with OpenSim 3.3 already installed. Participants in the advanced session in the afternoon should also have Matlab installed and also set up your Matlab scripting environment.
